Choose an area and make a plan
- Choose one shelf, drawer or small area to work through.
- Set aside a little time and gather bags or boxes for sorting.
- Make space for things to keep, offer, repair, donate or recycle.
Sort one item at a time
- Keep items you use or have a clear plan to use.
- Check that anything you plan to offer is yours to pass on.
- Set aside items that need cleaning, repair or a closer condition check.
- Check local guidance before disposing of anything you cannot reuse.
Before you make an offer
- Note the item’s size, make, model or other useful details.
- List any marks, wear, missing parts and what is included.
- Take clear photos in good light and remove personal information from the background.
- Decide what kinds of swaps or arrangements you would consider.
